Musio

I'm back for update again, this time round I'm going to blog about music.
Pastor spoke about visualising your future before, and that's what I've been doing since secondary school, before I attended church. I often visualise myself standing before multitudes of people performing my self-written songs with the band and hearing screams and shouts of excitement reverberating across the venue.

It's sort of what I wanted to be since I was young, travelling around the world, getting to know their cultures and stuff, yet at the same time touching people with music, be the salt and light of this world. I believe music is a form of healing, and it's a powerful one, because it transcends all language barriers and other forms of distance because everyone loves music, no one can say that he hates music, there's got to be some form of music that he or she likes, be it jazz, new wave, country or even heavy metal.

What makes me feel like I'm stuck in a small box is the fact that Singapore has such a small market for music that despite how hard our country is trying to promote herself as a hub for art, it's really difficult to break out of that shell and mingle among the artistes of the west. Underground unknown bands or singers with no record labels tagged to their neck often have more resounding success than creme de la creme artistes here in Singapore, and those who are successful here are chinese singers. English musicians hardly have the chance to wringle out of the mud.

I personally felt abit wasted that I have a Grade 8 in classical piano yet could not do much, at most I could only be a music teacher, or work in a music company. But what I yearned for is more than just that, I wanted to have my music known throughout the world, not just settling for a small little classroom with young prepubescent kids teaching do re mi for the rest of my life.
I know this post today has kinda an angsty feeling to it but that's how I feel about my future. Seriously I feel that if you want to make it big in the music industry, you got to take your chance and venture overseas, staying here is not going to make any difference.

watch stars go out tonight.
On sinking ground.
