Movies!

Photobucket

Just by looking at the two movie posters above this sentence, which movie entices you more? The locally produced Jack Neo CNY Film Ah Long Pte Ltd or the long-awaited Stephen Chow film CJ7 which coincidentally labeled itself as a CNY film? For me, it's CJ7 that appeals to me more than ALPL, and I was right. Caught this two movies in a span of only 3 days and all I can say is that there's a huge contrast between this two CNY movies. Watched APLP with my battalion and CJ7 with ben and the gang.

The tixs

At first I had a huge expectation to laugh throughout the whole show before I stepped into the hall for APLP, and the start looks promising, but once the opening sequence ended, the whole show is just went down a neverending spiral without a chance to redeem itself. The jokes are itself trying to be funny when it's supposed to be funny, the humour is so bad you just have to force yourself to laugh or rather smile in this case just to make ur movie money feel it's well-spent. There's no plot in this movie, and even if there is, it's so lame because of the totally physics defying effects.

Ok, I'll just spoil this part for you, there's this part of the movie that shows Fann Wong's triad gang having a soccer showdown with their rival gang at this deserted backalley whereby the set up and decorations of the goal posts, which for your info is 2 suspended durian baskets decorated with colourful ribbons corresponding to each gang's colour. And instead of playing soccer with the soccerball, they decided to use durian, how creative. And fann wong actually managed to score the first goal by flying up like 2 storeys into the air!?, kicking the ball until it flies around the alley like a deflated balloon on a rampage knocking down everyone in it's path with the impact of a car banging a human, and even manages to cause a crack in the concrete wall before flying into the goal basket.

How on earth are you suppose to laugh at such a lame effect. I don't know if I'm suppose to laugh at the exaggerating effects or something else which I didn't catch. And yea, you can guess that the whole show operates somewhere on this kind of humour.

On the other hand, CJ7 presents a totally different kind of story. It is also another graphics heavy, CGI laden movie but it does a so much better job than ALPL. At least the jokes are still laughable without having to think about it so much, like the scene where the construction worker claims to have seen the UFO flying and even got a picture of it, but the picture of the UFO is exactly the same helmet as what the worker is wearing on his head.

And the best part I feel is that it's also a very touching show, I won't spoil the show but many people cried during that part haha.

Ok, enough about the movie reviews, time to blog about CNY. Spent Chu 1 and Chu 2 having bbq at my aunt's house and I ate a lot, like 4 plates of pure meat each time, guess I'm going to put on a lot of weight for this festive period. Ang baos on the other hand, all I can say is I got more than last year, which is a good thing, but I reckon all that money is going to be spent on clothes anyway, or into my savings for rainy days.

Karaoke session at partyworld with the TRP people tommorow so lookout for another post!
